To all ERTICO Partners
Dear Partners,
We are pleased to inform you that ERTICO office has been invited to the Digital Assembly, 28-29 September 2016 in Bratislava: “Putting the Digital Single Market at the heart of Europe” (see: https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/digital-assembly-2016-bratislava). ERTICO office will be part of the two following workshops on 28 September 2016:
Workshop 4: Connected and Automated Driving: a catalyst for the future deployment of 5G in Europe (28 September – 14:45 to 15:45)
The workshop will focus on the flagship case of connected automated driving as a promising example of a new digital ecosystem enabled by advanced connectivity infrastructures like 5G. It will also provide a longer term policy perspective in the context of 5G deployment and its accelerating effect on the digitisation of several vertical industries.
Panel 1: Connected automated driving
The topic deals with Connected automated driving as a promising example of a new “digital ecosystem” enabled by advanced connectivity infrastructures. Participants will discuss on how to accelerate the deployment of connected and automated driving by using advanced digital technologies and services through multi-sectorial cooperation:
Panel questions:
- How does Commissioner Oettinger’s roundtable on connected and automated driving contribute to this objective?
(ERTICO response: Roundtable will deliver a European cross border pre-deployment project which will provide the last step towards wide scale commercial deployment of connected and automated driving)
- What are the main challenges?
(ERTICO response: the main challenges lie in developing a coherent investment path of all relevant stakeholders and common use cases. In addition there are issues concerning standardisation, security, business models, policy framework)
- What is the role of standardisation in this context?
(ERTICO response: standardisation is important to achieve interoperability by defining common interfaces and data formats)
Moderator:
Ms Afke Schaart, GSMA
Speakers:
Mr Joost Vantomme, ACEA
Mr Aria Etemad, Volkswagen
Mr Hermann Meyer, ERTICO
Mr Knut Evensen, Q-Free
Workshop 6: GIGABIT Society (28 September – 14:15 to 15:45)
The workshop will focus on the Commission’s ambition for a Gigabit Society as presented by Commissioner Oettinger in March 2016 at CEBIT. The workshop would provide an excellent platform to inform stakeholders about the Gigabit society envisaged and engage them in discussions on policy actions and seek their input and support beyond the telecom world.
Panel: Preparing for the Future
Chair:
Anthony Whelan, Director of Directorate B, Electronic Communications, Networks & Sevices – DG Connect
Panellists:
Beata Brestenska, Incubator of Innovative Teachers Microsoft, Slovakia
François Fischer, ERTICO
Jan Kubalik, PPP4Broadband
Nicolas Merigo, Marguerite
The following questions have been proposed for this panel:
- For what automotive applications Gigabit connections could be a key enabler?
(ERTICO response: for instance Automated Driving, HD maps, Physical Internet) - What are the technical challenges of using Gigabit connectivity for safety relevant applications in the Automotive?
(ERTICO response: for instance Security and privacy issues, Quality of Service) - How Gigabit network should be deployed to ensure service continuity and long life cycles in the automotive?
(ERTICO response: for instance ensuring network availability, and availability of radio access networks technologies accoriding to the automotive life cycles)
ERTICO partners are welcome to propose responses for the two set of above questions, so that the ERTICO office representatives can spread messages representing the ERTICO partnership views.
Many thanks in advance for your contributions and feel free to contact Francois Fischer for any further question (contact details below).
