ERTICO Academy launches NextETRUCK course for truck fleet electrification

ERTICO´s expert-led training program, ERTICO Academy, recently released its latest course under the NextETRUCK project. In this free-of-charge program, which will consist of several training sessions, consortium professionals share knowledge, tools and methodologies to accelerate the electrification of urban freight transport.

After 42 months of work, the EU-funded project NextETRUCK is coming to a close. Over the past three and a half years, the initiative has driven the deployment of zero-emission electric medium-duty freight vehicles, providing a clean, viable alternative to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) fleets. To support scalability, project experts are developing a series of online courses to share the know-how gained and speed up the shift towards decarbonisation. These online courses are hosted under the ERTICO Academy.

A deep dive into global e-truck trends 

The first course of the NextETRUCK series, provided by TNO, is already available. Under the title “Global Trends in Truck Electrification and Fleet Energy Management Systems”, it offers an introduction to the key developments shaping the electrification of commercial freight. It is aimed at logistics fleet managers, local authorities, transport professionals, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in the transition to zero-emission commercial vehicle operations, and covers global trends, regulatory and economic considerations, charging infrastructure, and fleet energy management. Participants will gain a broader understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with truck electrification and the solutions that can help accelerate deployment.

Drawing on relevant project takeaways, NextETRUCK partners are currently preparing four additional e-courses on: 

• Challenges in Truck Decarbonisation, detailing truck-specific factors in the transition to zero emissions, including total cost of ownership and infrastructure considerations. 
• NextETRUCK Data and Tools, providing an overview of operational data collection, and presenting two planning tools developed by NextETRUCK. 
• Business Models and Deployment, sharing a practical understanding of the economic and operational aspects associated with the deployment of electric trucks.
• Exploitation Roadmap in Fleet Electrification. Developed by ERTICO, this course will detail strategies for turning project innovations into long-term market uptake.

Strategic knowledge for the future of transport 

While specific projects or initiatives can contribute to the development of innovative solutions, tools or new business models, scalability and mass deployment are key to making a real impact. Collaborations like the one established between NextETRUCK and the ERTICO Academy are a relevant step forward to lecture and guide other professionals on the decarbonisation path.

“Other projects have previously collaborated with ERTICO´s Academy, sharing their knowledge with other professionals in the sector. Currently, we are also in close contact with projects such as NAPCORE and MetaCCAZE to explore opportunities for upcoming online courses. The Academy offers a great opportunity to make valuable knowledge and insights accessible to a wider audience, giving learners a direct view into the latest research, innovation and developments at the heart of European mobility and transport”, adds Roozbeh.
