Today, ERTICO and its Partnership convened online for the 36th General Assembly. We launched our Annual Video, capturing the highlights and breakthroughs achieved between May 2025 and June 2026.
As ERTICO marks its 35th Anniversary, the release showcases a significant year with moments of reflection and celebration, looking back at a rich legacy of transport innovation whilst training its sights firmly on the horizon.
The Continued Growth of the ERTICO Partnership
Over the past twelve months, the collective mission to build a more sustainable, efficient and safe transport ecosystem has gained unprecedented momentum.
Since June 2025, the ERTICO Partnership grew with the arrival of 13 new partners: Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM), Luxemburg National Data Service (LNDS), SYSTRA, Transport for London, MOST (Centro Nationale per la Mobilità Sostenibile), Transport for Greater Manchester, Nextbike, European Parking Association (EPA), Municipality of Kifissia, MaaSLab, evon, Transitool and Movias.
From collaborative visits of Arriva, Ohmio, DEKRA, Kifissa, LNDS and the University of Leeds, to elevated industry dialogues through video interviews as part of the #PartnershipVoice sezriess, and ‘Partners in the Spotlight’ interviews, the power of collective action has never been stronger.
This spirit of collaboration also extended into groundbreaking new partnerships as ERTICO forged pivotal strategic cooperation agreements with 6G-IA and International Transport Forum ITF-OECD, whilst launching a new CCAM cross-sectoral thematic working group.
One year after the launch of its new website and with the continued rollout of its Vision 2035, ERTICO has further strengthened its role as Europe’s definitive compass for smart mobility.
Expanding Our EU-Project Portfolio for Smarter Transport
The true heartbeat of ERTICO is reflected across its expansive portfolio of research, innovation and deployment activities. The past year marked an important transition as 11 flagship EU projects successfully concluded their cycles. Each delivered vital tools to the market and strong legacies that will be carried forward into the next generation of innovative solutions for a safer, more resilient and sustainable future.
- PoDIUM advanced the integration of Physical and Digital Infrastructure (PDI) to enable safer, more efficient, and more reliable road automation.
- IN2CCAM delivered key recommendations to accelerate interoperable and scalable CCAM deployment, following three years of real-world testing across six Living Labs.
- LeMesurier concluded its work, leaving behind a unified framework to track and quantify the impact of Europe’s zero-emission road transport research.
- PLOTO showcased its specialised platform designed to support strategic planning and day-to-day operational decision-making under challenging conditions for inland waterway resilience.
- NextETRUCK advanced its pilots into the testing phase, initiating real-world data collection to support zero-emission freight solutions.
- SINFONICA developed novel methods to engage users and stakeholders, co-creating CCAM solutions that are inclusive for all.
- SUNRISE successfully delivered the ‘SAF Interactive Handbook’ and hosted its Final Event to present the results of its real-world testing and validation.
- STREnGth_M advanced European road transport research by updating six thematic ERTRAC roadmaps.
- V4SAFETY delivered a simulation-based safety assessment framework specifically designed to evaluate safety performance measures.
- SUM implemented shared mobility solutions across nine living labs, which included launching a new Open Data Platform to support replicability and wider adoption in other regions.
- FAME successfully delivered a framework for harmonised CCAM testing on public roads, including the EU-CEM Common Evaluation Methodology
As these chapters closed, 10 new initiatives stepped into the light: boostEDIC M&L, CORESpaces, periASTY, CERTAIN, CHORUS, SMARTIN, FEDORA, TISGRADE, Pre_LSDemo, and CCAMbassador, which builds on FAME.
At the same time, ongoing projects and initiatives continue to scale. To mention a few, NAPCOREentered its second harmonisation phase, ZEV-UP showcased its live electric demonstration vehicles, CulturalRoad developed innovative methodologies to foster equitable implementation of CCAM services, FRODDO launched four real-world pilots to validate a federated cyber‑physical infrastructure. We also launched the ERTICO National Moonshot initiative, aiming to align city and national policies to help reshape the European transport landscape.
This continuous cycle of project development reflects ERTICO’s enduring commitment to transforming innovation into real-world impact. Through its extensive network and proven expertise, ERTICO continues to build a strong reputation for delivering collaborative projects that support European policy objectives while generating tangible benefits for transport users, cities, businesses and society.
Uniting Global Voices to Advance the Future of Mobility at ITS Congresses
The past year also proved that the global conversation around Intelligent Transport Systems is more vibrant than ever. The 2025 ITS World Congress in Atlanta, co-organised by ERTICO in collaboration with ITS America and ITS Asia-Pacific, welcomed over 6,000 attendees to exchange knowledge across the continents and strengthen international cooperation. As part of the journey towards the next EMEA ITS World Congress in Birmingham, the host organisation, Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), and ERTICO also presented the UK-ERTICO European Pavilion, highlighting the UK's role in advancing intelligent transport solutions.
Building on this momentum, the 17th ITS European Congress in Istanbul connected up to 2,700 participants from 54 countries. During the Congress, ERTICO’s European Pavilion once again stood as a testament to cooperation, showcasing more than 24 projects and platforms alongside eight national ITS associations, demonstrating exactly what can be achieved when the industry speaks with a single, unified voice.
Celebrating 35 Years
For 35 years, ERTICO has contributed to shaping the development. Today, that legacy is not just alive, it is accelerating.
As the new Annual Video invites partners and stakeholders to celebrate how far we have come, it serves as an inspiring reminder that the journey is only just beginning.
The road ahead first leads to South Korea, where the global ITS community will gather for the 32nd ITS World Congress in Gangneung from 19 to 23 October 2026, before continuing to the UK for the 33rd ITS World Congress in Birmingham, taking place from 25 to 29 October 2027.
Under the banner of connecting ideas and transforming transport, ERTICO and its partners stand ready to write the next chapter of mobility, together.
"These milestones remind us that our success belongs entirely to the whole ITS Community. On behalf of ERTICO, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated Partners, the Supervisory Board, and the Strategy Committee for their trust, and to the European institutions for their enduring cooperation. Finally, a special thank you to the ERTICO Team, whose passion and hard work are the true engines behind our achievements. Together, we are proudly writing the next chapter of smart mobility."
