Efficient Wireless Stationary Bidirectional Charging Solutions for Light-Duty Vehicles
Impact
WiBiCharge will deliver interoperable, safe, and highly efficient (>90%) wireless bidirectional charging systems for light-duty electric vehicles. The project will demonstrate seamless Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) power transfer, converting electric vehicles into flexible energy storage assets that support grid stability. Advanced inductive ground and vehicle charging assemblies will be validated in real-world urban pilots under diverse weather, dust and obstruction conditions. By eliminating physical cables and street clutter, the solutions will optimise public spaces while offering higher resistance against environmental wear and vandalism.
The project will establish standardised communication protocols and digital interfaces to guarantee cross-brand interoperability and strict electromagnetic safety compliance. A user-centric socio-technical approach will ensure high accessibility for elderly citizens and individuals with disabilities through co-creation workshops and early stakeholder engagement.
Objectives
- Design and deploy a user-centric approach for bidirectional wireless charging technology, and integrate societal readiness into the R&I process to ensure that innovations are advanced both technologically and responsively, delivering diverse societal values
- Design, develop and demonstrate next-generation wireless V2G charging systems which are low-power, cost-effective, safe, interoperable and people-friendly
- Create a seamless integration of bidirectional charging solutions into the electricity grid, synergistic with renewable energy systems in different urban areas
- Design and demonstrate standardised, interoperable system architecture for V2X
- Develop innovative business models for planning and mass deployment across Europe, and create the necessary momentum and maximise exploitation, securing impact beyond the project lifetime
