Over five days, thousands of people will gather in Atlanta for the 31st ITS World Congress, taking place from August 24 to 28, 2025. As co-creators of the Congress Programme, ERTICO - ITS Europe has actively contributed to shaping the agenda, ensuring comprehensive representation of European innovators and facilitating opportunities for exchanging expertise and knowledge.

Now heading to Georgia's largest city of trade and transportation centre, the ERTICO delegation looks forward to meeting many familiar faces, making new connections and presenting European perspectives in a range of sessions and forums.
Focusing on the exchange of ideas, expertise, and lessons learned on a global scale, this year’s World Congress will focus on innovation, technology deployment, and transport policy developments. Building on the themes, the Congress Programme will provide a framework for exploring the most pressing topics in intelligent transport, from automation and connected solutions to sustainability, multimodality, data, and emerging technologies.

Kicking off the first day, the AASHTO International Day will unite global transportation leaders to share experiences, explore innovative practices, and foster cross-border collaboration in the field of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). ERTICO CEO Joost Vantomme will share insight into the discussion on how emerging technologies and proven ITS strategies are making roads safer around the world. The session will feature insights into how different countries are deploying ITS tools to enhance traffic operations, reduce crashes and fatalities, and ultimately save lives.
Energy-focused Intelligent Transport Systems can make cities cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable and this thematic track will be highlighted in the session SIS07: Energy-Based Green ITS for Smart City Mobility. Represented by Ralf Willenbrock, Senior Manager, will share his perspectives on innovative approaches to reducing emissions and optimising urban mobility through intelligent energy use.

SIS10: Space-Based Technologies for PNT in Road Mobility – The European Perspective. Dr Nikolaos Tsampieris, Head of Transport for Logistics, will present Europe’s advancements in Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) using space-based technologies, demonstrating their role in improving road safety, navigation accuracy, and automated driving capabilities.
SIS11: How to Engage the Local Community to Address Automated Mobility Acceptance will highlight public engagement strategies to build trust in automated mobility. The session will also explore community involvement, awareness campaigns, and transparent communication to increase acceptance of driverless technologies. Dr Stephane Dreher, Head of CCAM, will join the discussion and also contribute with insight in the session SIS17: Building Blocks for CCAM Deployment, elaborating on the foundational elements necessary for the successful deployment of Cooperative, Connected, and Automated Mobility (CCAM), including infrastructure readiness, cross-border cooperation, and harmonised regulations.

During the official Opening Ceremony, ERTICO's Chairman, Dr Angelos Amditis, will present the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award, and CEO Joost Vantomme, will take part in the “Three CEOs Panel with the CEO of ITS America and the secretary general of ITS Asia Pacific,” setting the tone for the week’s discussions on global mobility.
SIS47: AI in Action – Enhancing Public Transit and Urban Infrastructure, organised by Agne Vaitekenaite, Head of Partnership and Advocacy, and presented by Mr Vantomme, will provide insight into the real-world AI applications improving public transit efficiency, enhancing passenger experiences, and optimising urban infrastructure management.
Mr Vantomme, acting as Vice President of the MaaS Alliance, will also be joining the Global MOD/MaaS Forum – Seamless Complete Trips together with Dr Tamara Djukic, Head of Green & Urban Mobility. As an invitation-only event, this forum will go deeper into global best practices and innovations enabling seamless multimodal journeys, and explore how public–private collaboration can scale MaaS solutions.
With the honour to represent its Partners on the global stage, ERTICO will aim to foster synergies, dialogues, and share expertise in European innovations and lessons learned. The traditional Partner Tour at 11:30 offers a unique opportunity to meet Partners directly and discover their latest breakthroughs.

This year's ITS Summit is set to focus on Emerging Technologies and Safety: Predictive and Proactive Measures. Dr Amditis and Mr Vantomme will join global leaders to examine how predictive analytics, AI, and sensor technologies can anticipate risks and prevent incidents before they occur.
Dr Amditis will also contribute to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s session on Advancing Safety with Responsible AI, to exchange knowledge and insight into the developments and implementations of AI in transport systems, in particular focusing on responsibly, ensuring safety and ethics.
Commercially viable and sustainable business models for deploying automated vehicles are also important components of future transport, including partnerships, policy incentives, and infrastructure considerations. Dr Dreher will bring his expertise to the table during the International Forum (IF5) - Business Models for Vehicle Automation Deployment.

Kicking off the second-to-last day, Mr Vantomme will take part in the 16th International ITS Associations meeting, where representatives from all over the world's national and regional ITS Associations will share the latest developments and thought leadership.
Dr Dreher will present during SIS52: From Data to Reality – Unlocking the Global Potential of Autonomous Mobility and Logistics, and share his insight into leveraging real-world data to move autonomous mobility from pilot projects to large-scale deployment, addressing interoperability, regulatory frameworks, and cross-border logistics.
Joining global experts once more on stage, Mr Vantomme will discuss how to strike the right balance between open data policies that foster innovation and the need to safeguard national security interests during the AM IF7: Global Data Sharing vs. National Security Protection.
Another highlight of the day, SIS60: Collaborative Strategies for Enhancing ITS, Dr Amditis and Mr Vantomme will bring insight into strategies for improving Intelligent Transport Systems through international cooperation, multi-sector collaboration, and joint innovation projects. This session is organised by Mrs Vaitekenaite.
The day will conclude at the UK – ERTICO ITS – European Pavilion with the traditional ITS World Congress Regional Reception, taking place at 17:05. This dynamic networking moment is a highlight of the Congress, bringing together participants from across the globe to celebrate regional achievements and exchange perspectives in a relaxed setting. As host of the EMEA Reception, ERTICO will showcase the strength and diversity of European innovation, offering Partners and stakeholders an opportunity to connect, share experiences, and build new collaborations.

Organised by ERTICO, with Dr Amditis and Dr Tsampieris speaking, SIS66: Traffic Efficiency and Safety Through CCAM: Enhancing Physical and Digital Infrastructure in Europe, Canada and the US will focus on boosting traffic efficiency and safety by integrating physical and digital infrastructure across continents.
On the same global scale of discussion, Dr Djukic will join IF9: Fair Mobility as a Service (Fair MaaS) to Sustainability Beyond to discuss how MaaS can be made fair, inclusive, and sustainable, ensuring equitable access to mobility services for all user groups.
SIS71: Automated Valet Parking for Automated Services, Dr Dreher will present advancements in Automated Valet Parking technologies, demonstrating their integration into broader automated service ecosystems. Read more about this session here.
Dr Angelos Plenary 3: Building a More Resilient Transportation System with AI & Emerging Technologies – Angelos Amditis will join leaders to discuss how AI and emerging technologies can build more resilient transport systems, with Joost Vantomme attending to represent ERTICO at the closing plenary.
Integrating connected, cooperative, and automated mobility (CCAM) into existing infrastructure is essential for creating safer and more efficient mobility. In the SIS66: Traffic Efficiency and Safety Through CCAM: Enhancing Physical and Digital Infrastructure (PDI) in Europe, Canada and the US, Dr Amditis and Dr Tsampieris will explore how advancements in CCAM technologies and Physical-Digital Infrastructure (PDI) are shaping the future of transportation systems.

Beyond the strong contribution to many insightful sessions, ERTICO's delegation will also present numerous activities in the exhibition together with Transport for West Midlands, host of the 33rd ITS World Congress in Birmingham 2027. As part of the close collaboration, the UK - ERTICO ITS - European Pavilion will become a dedicated platform providing all its co-exhibitors with exclusive visibility and networking opportunities.
Alongside the promotion of the next EMEA ITS World Congress 2027, the Pavilion will feature European innovation, presented by the ERTICO Partner, HERE Technologies, ITS Sweden's member, Triplesign System AB, and the ERTICO Platform, Enhancing Automated Valet Parking (EAVP), as well as the 2026 ITS European Congress in Istanbul.
