South Africa’s first ITS Africa Conference (ITSAC 2027), taking place on 9–10 March 2027 in the Cape Winelands, will connect European expertise with government officials, transport professionals and industry leaders from across the region.
Held under the theme ‘Bridging Continents for Smarter Mobility’, ITSAC 2027 invites experts from across Europe to contribute to the programme as speakers, sharing their knowledge and experience through keynote presentations, panel discussions and other sessions.
The Conference will create a platform for knowledge exchange between the European and Southern African ITS communities, bringing together organisations and professionals involved in planning, developing, funding and delivering transport systems.
ERTICO is supporting ITSAC 2027 as its Partner, helping to shape the programme and strengthen the exchange of knowledge and experience between Europe and Southern Africa.
“ERTICO is proud to partner in the first ITS Africa Conference, helping to shape a programme that fosters meaningful dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and expertise in both directions. The Conference presents an important opportunity to strengthen ties between Africa and Europe, bringing together diverse experiences, perspectives and expertise to address shared mobility challenges,” says Joost Vantomme, CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe.
A platform to connect European and African expertise
ITSAC 2027 will bring together representatives from all levels of government - local, provincial and national – alongside transport authorities, operators, industry, academia, investors and development agencies.
Designed as a working event rather than a showcase, the Conference will feature two days of sessions, complemented by an exhibition running alongside the Programme.
For European ITS professionals, the Conference offers an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences with Southern African stakeholders, explore challenges, and identify opportunities for collaboration in intelligent transport.
Nine topics spanning the transport system
The programme will address nine interconnected areas:
- Public Transport
- Smart Cities
- ITS Education, Skills and Research
- Communication and Renewable Energy
- Traffic Signals
- Tolling
- Freeway Management Systems and Rural ITS
- Cross-border Operations, Ports and Rail
- Technology in Road Safety
The inaugural event will start with an opening session, delivered in partnership with ERTICO, setting the stage for two days of knowledge exchange, discussion and practical collaboration. The first day will conclude with an evening welcome function, creating space to connect and engage in conversations beyond the formal sessions.
European speakers encouraged to get involved
ITSAC 2027 will seek transport and mobility experts from across Europe to contribute to the Programme through keynote presentations and panel discussions.
Contributions are welcome from experts across the conference topics. Organisations can also explore sponsorship opportunities and engage with the growing Southern African ITS community.
