From 16th to 22nd September, European Mobility Week brought together 2,000 towns and cities across Europe, showcasing activities and initiatives designed to promote more sustainable transport options such as public transport, cycling, and walking. This year’s theme, “Mobility for Everyone”, highlighted the importance of making transport accessible, affordable, and fair for all.
Throughout this European Mobility Week, the ERTICO-coordinated MetaCCAZE project held its Consortium Meeting in Munich. The focus was on cross-fertilisation activities, encouraging knowledge sharing between trailblazer and follower living labs. Observer cities outside the project were also invited to take part to gain new insights. Key topics included use cases and business models that can drive the creation of new inclusive, low-carbon transport services. The meeting also featured real-world visits to the Cargo Bike Hub and the Dynamic Curbside Management trial currently being developed within the project.
Inclusive Spaces and SINFONICA in Action : Making Cities More Accessible
In line with this year's theme of "Mobility for Everyone," the Inclusive Spaces project highlighted its commitment to building more accessible urban environments. Two project pilot sites, Larnaca and Budapest, actively took part in European Mobility Week, demonstrating their initiatives on the ground.
These cities offered a real-world glimpse into how the project is shaping fairer and more inclusive transport solutions. A standout moment was Budapest’s Car-Free Day on 20 th September, demonstrating the impact of sustainable, and people-centred mobility in action.
The SINFONICA project also took part in the European Mobility Week through a dedicated workshop held in Trikala, Greece. Building on this year’s theme and the project’s motto of “leaving on one behind”, the workshop presented the project’s outcomes and key recommendations to co-create inclusive automated mobility solutions, which can be found online for all interested stakeholders through the SINFONICA Knowledge Map Explorer.
Spotlight on Innovation: MaaS Star Awards and Global Mobility Initiatives
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the MaaS Alliance launched the MaaS Star Awards as part of European Mobility Week activities. This new initiative aims to spotlight excellence in multimodal and integrated mobility services, recognising both public and private organisations as well as leading voices shaping a more seamless, user-centric mobility ecosystem. Categories include Best MaaS App, Top MaaS City Award, Rising MaaS Star, and MaaS Impact Award. Nominations are open until 30th September, and the awards ceremony will take place on 5th November at the MaaS Alliance Partnership Forum during the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona.
The European Mobility Week encourages people to adopt active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent transport solutions. With urban populations growing and mobility challenges intensifying, the ERTICO City Moonshot initiative engages cities worldwide to better understand their priorities, needs, and future trends. Aligned with the European Commission’s objectives and the spirit of Mobility Week, ERTICO and its members are gathering insights on topics such as sustainability, e-mobility, and Mobility as a Service (MaaS). These global perspectives help shape greener, more efficient, and more inclusive mobility solutions, making cities more livable.
