In its continued effort to improve transport innovation and deliver impact in strategic areas such as Urban & Suburban Networks and Transport for People, ERTICO is proud to lead NEXUS’ Work Package 10, which focuses on stakeholder engagement and dissemination. This work is essential in facilitating the uptake and acceptance of NEXUS innovations within metro transportation systems. By developing knowledge, tools, and technological solutions that benefit a wide range of stakeholders — including local governments, policy makers, researchers, and metro operators — the project supports better decision-making, more efficient operations, and ultimately more reliable mobility services for citizens.
NEXUS is advancing its solutions through two pilot sites — Sofia (BG) and Genoa (IT) — where it is developing tailored decision-support systems and AI-driven tools to make metro networks more intelligent, efficient, inclusive, and adaptive.
Communicating the complexities of innovation in urban mobility is not always straightforward. While NEXUS brings forward user-centred design, advanced technologies, and future-ready operational concepts, the details can sometimes remain abstract for broader audiences. To support clearer communication, the consortium has released a video animation presenting the project’s approach, challenges, and objectives in an accessible format.

As a Eu-Rail Joint Undertaking project, NEXUS is committed to setting a new benchmark for innovation in metro transportation across Europe. Coordinated by STAM SRL, the project envisions a future in which technology enhances operations sustainably and responsibly—transforming metros into adaptable, user-focused mobility systems strengthened by next-generation AI and decision-support capabilities.
Dr Nikolaos Tsampieris, ERTICO’s Head of Transport for Logistics, commented:
It is inspiring to participate in this forward-looking project, which aspires to pioneer innovative solutions for urban and metro transport, envisioning a future where technology enhances operations responsibly and sustainably, for the benefit of the European Citizen
