Preparations are moving into a new phase with the EMEA ITS World Congress 2027 only two years away. As organiser, ERTICO – ITS Europe, together with the host Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), will organise its first Open Day upon invitation-only, held on Wednesday 15 October alongside the Highways UK event at the NEC in Birmingham.
This Open Day is the first in a planned series of events designed to allow UK and international companies and organisations to explore partnership and exhibition opportunities. The programme will also include a tour of the NEC halls, showcasing how the Congress will transform the venue into a global hub for intelligent transport in 2027.
“For over a year now, ERTICO and Transport for West Midlands have been working in close collaboration, setting the theme of the Congress and shaping the partnership and exhibition opportunities,“ says Didier Gorteman, ERTICO CFOO and Congress Director. “Building on the momentum of our successful joint stand at the 2025 ITS World Congress in Atlanta earlier this August, the Birmingham Open Day marks an important milestone in our preparations for 2027. It will provide valuable insight to begin early engagement preparations and bring partners and exhibitors with us on the journey to shape the event with them over the next two years.”
Set for 25–29 October 2027, the Congress will attract up to 15,000 participants, making it one of the largest events ever hosted at the NEC. This will be the second time the UK has welcomed the ITS World Congress, following London in 2006.
“We have been working in the background on the World Congress for two years now and are ready to share our exciting plans for creating something really special for the highways and transport technology industries in the UK,” explained Transport for West Midlands’ Strategic Head of Transport Innovation Chris Lane, who is leading local planning for the Congress. “As we welcome the world to the NEC, we have so many opportunities to showcase the brilliant innovations that the UK is delivering to the world’s transport networks, and this means significant business opportunities for these innovators. The longer they have to commit to, and plan for, the World Congress, the greater the value they will realise.”
