Following the successful second General Assembly in Budapest, the FEDORA consortium is reflecting on the progress achieved during the project's first year and preparing for the next phase of implementation.
Bringing together partners from across Europe, the General Assembly provided an opportunity to review technical developments, exchange experiences across work packages, and align the consortium on the activities leading towards the first pilot demonstrations.
Dr Roozbeh Mohammadi, Manager at ERTICO - ITS Europe, and project coordinator, commented:
"Looking back on our first year, it is encouraging to see how much the FEDORA consortium has accomplished together. FEDORA is built around three technical components: the data space, the service space, and the simulation space. The technological developments emerging from these components will ultimately be deployed and validated at our pilot sites. Making these elements work together is no easy task, yet already in the first year we managed to establish a working pipeline connecting these technical components, which is a significant achievement for the project."
Over the past twelve months, FEDORA has laid the foundations for a new generation of multimodal traffic management solutions. Key achievements include the development of the project's cross-sectoral Data Space, enabling secure and interoperable mobility data sharing, the definition of the Integrated Platform architecture, and significant advances in simulation, modelling, and AI-supported mobility services.
The consortium has also made important progress across its six pilot sites, where Living Lab activities and stakeholder engagement are helping ensure that FEDORA's solutions respond to real operational needs. At the same time, partners have continued to strengthen collaboration through dissemination, scientific publications, and engagement with the wider European mobility community.
Beyond its own technical developments, FEDORA has continued to strengthen its engagement with the wider European mobility research community. The project is an active member of the Multimodal Traffic Management (MTM) Cluster, collaborating with other Horizon Europe initiatives to advance integrated approaches to multimodal traffic management. At the same time, FEDORA has increased its involvement in the CIVITAS Initiative, contributing to knowledge exchange and supporting the development of innovative, sustainable urban mobility solutions alongside cities and mobility stakeholders across Europe.
As FEDORA enters its second year, the project is moving from design and development towards integration, validation, and large-scale demonstrations. Building on the strong foundations established during its first year, the consortium remains committed to delivering innovative, data-driven solutions that support more efficient, sustainable, and resilient mobility across Europe.
The discussions and outcomes of the General Assembly reaffirmed the consortium's shared commitment to turning research into practical solutions, while continuing to strengthen collaboration between researchers, technology providers, public authorities, and mobility stakeholders.
