The IDI (ITS-Driven Innovative aerial services) platform has taken an important step forward with the launch of its new website, officially unveiled during the first General Assembly, held on 29–30 January 2026 at the headquarters of AUMOVIO in Frankfurt. The new website marks a milestone in strengthening IDI’s visibility, positioning and engagement with the broader integrated mobility ecosystem.
Why IDI matters
The integration of Innovative Aerial Services (IAS) into multimodal transport systems is one of the most complex and forward-looking challenges towards integrated mobility today. While drone and other Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) technologies and services are progressing rapidly, their meaningful integration into existing urban and regional mobility frameworks, as well as other city operations, remains limited.
IDI was created to address precisely this gap. By bringing together cities, industry, research organisations, public authorities and civic associations, the platform promotes coordinated approaches to air-ground integration, data interoperability, deployment effectiveness and societal readiness. Its ambition is not to treat aerial services as stand-alone solutions, but to embed them within connected, resilient, sustainable and societally embraced mobility ecosystems.
Launched at the ITS World Congress 2024 (Dubai, UAE), IDI is Europe-based yet internationally oriented, aiming to contribute to global deployment initiatives and policies on integrated air and ground operations, governance and required standards.
ERTICO’s contribution
As an innovation and deployment platform under ERTICO – ITS Europe, IDI benefits from ERTICO’s cross-sector role within the ITS community. ERTICO provides the framework for collaboration, ensuring alignment between public and private stakeholders, fostering dialogue across domains and supporting international outreach.
Through IDI, ERTICO extends its long-standing mission of enabling intelligent transport solutions into the aerial mobility domain, facilitating integration rather than fragmentation.
The launch of the new IDI website reflects this growing maturity, offering a dedicated space to communicate the IDI’s objectives, activities and opportunities for engagement.
Moving into the next phase
The 1st IDI General Assembly in Frankfurt marked the beginning of this new phase, bringing IDI members together to align on priorities and formally presenting the new website as a visible symbol of IDI’s next chapter.
Following the foundational year and the first IDI General Assembly, members are now working together to refine the platform’s strategic orientation and consolidate its value proposition. IDI Working Groups are in the process of being established, focusing on concrete deployment pathways, research and innovation priorities, and coordinated stakeholder engagement.
As Innovative Aerial Services (IAS) increasingly intersect with urban mobility, logistics and emergency systems, IDI will continue to play a key role in ensuring that integration between air and ground domains becomes a responsible reality.
