On 10 June 2026, ERTICO – ITS Europe welcomed Premium Partners to its annual Activity Development Day (ADD) at the ERTICO offices in Brussels. Bringing together over 80 experts from across the intelligent transport and mobility ecosystem, the event provided a valuable opportunity to exchange insights, identify emerging priorities and strengthen collaboration around the future of smart mobility in Europe.
As one of the key annual gatherings of the ERTICO Partnership, the Activity Development Day support the development of new ideas, foster cross-sector dialogue and help align stakeholders around the technological, policy and innovation trends shaping the transport sector.
Setting the scene for future mobility innovation
The day opened with a welcome from Joost Vantomme, CEO of ERTICO, followed by a keynote contribution from the European Commission. Andrea De Candido, Policy Officer at DG Research and Innovation, shared the latest perspectives on European research and innovation priorities, highlighting the role of collaboration in accelerating the transition towards more sustainable, connected and resilient mobility systems.
Participants also received an overview of ERTICO’s innovation activities and strategic priorities from Vlad Vorotovic, Chief Innovation Officer, together with insights into how our Partnership supports collaborative innovation and stakeholder engagement across the mobility ecosystem.
Exploring key themes across the mobility landscape
Following an overview of the Horizon Europe Work Programme and its relevance to the ERTICO Partnership, participants joined a series of parallel expert-led sessions covering some of the most important upcoming topics shaping the future of transport and mobility. The discussions provided insights into upcoming European research and innovation priorities while highlighting opportunities for collaboration across the intelligent mobility ecosystem.
Throughout the day, sessions focused on developments in electric mobility, connected and automated mobility, urban and rural multimodal transport, freight and logistics, connectivity, and the deployment of intelligent transport systems.
A strong emphasis was placed on the transition to zero-emission mobility and the development of new advanced European automotive and industrial capabilities. Discussions explored advances in charging infrastructure, heavy-duty vehicle electrification, circular economy approaches for electric vehicles, and safety considerations linked to the growing deployment of EVs.
Partners also examined the integration of Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) technologies and their role in enabling safer, more efficient and more resilient transport systems. The focus was on how to overcome critical and edge use cases needed to scale delivery across Europe.
Additional sessions addressed multimodal transport solutions that improve accessibility and connectivity across urban and rural areas, climate-resilient mobility hubs, sustainable urban logistics, and the growing importance of resilient positioning, navigation and timing technologies in supporting future transport operations. These sessions reflected on how to move from technology testing to deployment at scale.
Collaboration at the heart of innovation
Beyond the technical discussions, the Activity Development Day once again highlighted the value of the ERTICO Partnership as a platform for collaboration. Networking sessions throughout the day enabled Partners from industry, public authorities, research organisations and technology providers to connect, exchange expertise and identify opportunities for future cooperation.
The breadth of topics covered during the event demonstrated the increasingly interconnected nature of the mobility ecosystem and the need for coordinated action across sectors. From electrification and automation to multimodal transport and logistics, participants shared a common ambition to accelerate the deployment of innovative solutions that deliver tangible benefits for citizens, businesses and public authorities.
Looking ahead
As Europe continues its transition towards safer, smarter and more sustainable mobility, the ERTICO Activity Development Day remain an important forum for bringing stakeholders together to discuss emerging trends, exchange knowledge and build the partnerships needed to turn innovation into impact.
The 2026 edition reinforced ERTICO’s role as a trusted platform for collaboration, helping its Partners navigate a rapidly evolving mobility landscape while collectively shaping the future of intelligent transport systems in Europe and beyond.
