As the FAME project concluded in June 2025, CCAMbassador has officially taken over as the new Coordination and Support Action (CSA) of the CCAM Partnership, reflecting the current shift within Connected Automated Mobility, as well as in the Partnership, towards (large-scale) deployment. The project’s Kick-off meeting took place on 10-11 July 2025 at ERTICO’s offices in Brussels, Belgium. ERTICO is the project’s coordinator and is joined in this new project by ERTICO partners Austriatech, ICCS, Ministry of Transport (Czech Republic), TNO, Vedecom, and VTT.
CCAMbassador will be building on FAME’s achievements, i.e. namely the European Framework for European framework for CCAM testing on public roads, including the European Common Evaluation Methodology for CCAM (EU-CEM), CCAM Taxonomy and CCAM Test Data Space, the CAD Knowledge Base, and the wider CCAM stakeholder community engagement. The new Action will maintain and further develop these elements, expanding their focus beyond researchers, industry, and experts, to address the needs of citizens, operators, public authorities, raising their awareness, understanding, and preparedness for implementation.
To do this, CCAMbassador will define the key building blocks and harmonization needs for moving into operations; furthermore, it will analyse the gaps and develop tailored materials and new interfaces into a revamped Knowledge Base, targeted at these new audience groups.
The project will continue working with Member States toward the adoption of the recommendations for a harmonised regulatory framework for AV testing on public roads as well as deployment regulations (building upon the work done in the FAME project). In parallel, it will provide support and training for the adoption and use of the EU-CEM, which will be updated to reflect the needs of Member States.
The project will also continue to facilitate knowledge exchange, concertation and consensus building on R&I needs for the CCAM ecosystem to support the transition to CCAM operations, through interactive webinars & workshops, the EUCAD Conference & Symposia, international cooperation activities, among others.
CCAMbassador Coordinator and ERTICO- ITS Europe’s Head of CCAM Dr Stéphane Dreher commented:
As the FAME project concludes, we are not reaching the end of the road — we are entering a new phase. The baton has officially been passed to CCAMbassador, and with it comes a shift from research & innovation to deployment coordination and alignment. Over the next three years, CCAMbassador will be key in creating a shared operational picture of everything happening in the CCAM ecosystem, connecting stakeholders, supporting harmonised regulations, and providing implementers and citizens the knowledge and understanding needed to help truly put CCAM on the road.
CCAMbassador, as a flagship initiative in the field of Connected and Automated Mobility will be "connecting the dots" among actors in the ecosystem and beyond, providing a common operational picture of all that is happening around CCAM, ensuring coherence and alignment across CCAM initiatives in Europe — instrumental for the realisation of the objectives set by the CCAM Partnership.
